GOVERNING BODIES

Management Board. The supreme government of the Ramon Llull University falls to the management board of the Ramon Llull University Private Foundation, for all those subjects not strictly of an academic nature. The board defines the lines of government of the URL and its strategy; it approves the statutes, appoints the rector and his team and decides on the creation of new centres. The board also assumes the functions of social council of the university. The board is made up of representatives of the institutions of the URL and different members representing civil society. The executive council of the board, made up of its president, the rector and the directors of the federated institutions, implement the guidelines of the board and co-ordinate them with the federated institutions.

Rectorate. The rector is the highest academic authority in the university and his job is to run and represent it. He presides over the collegiate academic bodies: the Academic Council and the Governing Board.The rector proposes the vice-rectors and the secretary general of the university, who appoints the board and assists him in the everyday management of the university.

Academic Council. The Academic Council is the collegiate body that accompanies the rector in the government and everyday running of the university. It prepares the different questions to be dealt with by the Governing Board, draws up draft budgets and coordinates academic activity and the joint services between the different services making up the university. It is made up of: the rector, in his capacity as president; the vice-rectors and secretary general; the deacons and directors of the faculties and schools; a representative of all the university institutes. The general administrator can attend the meetings of the Academic Council but only in an advisory capacity.

Governing Board. The Governing Board is made up of: the rector, vice-rectors, the secretary general, deacons, heads of faculty or heads of faculties or schools integrated into the university, a lecturer designated by each of the centres teaching the second cycle, a representative of the directors of the university institutes, three representatives of the students, and a representative of the administration and services staff. The Governing Board meets ordinarily once a term, and extraordinarily whenever called upon to do so by the rector, who will preside over it, or on the request of half its members. The Governing Board (board of governors) is the supreme collegiate governing body of the university for academic matters. The Governing Board informs on aspects such as the creation or suppression of faculties, schools or institutes, incorporation of other centres of the URL; it approves the study plans and passes judgement on and proposes orientations on basic aspects of the academic development of the university.
